HINTERLAND
Installed, researched and performed in the Petri Space in Brooklyn, Hinterland in a collaboration between designer Jennifer Gonzales and Coco Karol. Interested in the everyday experiences that relate an individual to his or her surrounding architectures, Karol and Gonzales set out to accentuate the profound, subtle, spaces of the lived body, whether it be between skin and garment or between weight and balance, Hinterland was all about "that moment when you have to stand on one foot to put a sock on" (Gonzales) .
Hinterland, from German, means literally "the land behind". In this case, the land included a staircase, sailing cleats and rope, piles of sweaters, clogs, point shoes and the bodies trying to negotiate them.
